Sometimes when you don´t have enough memory cards, it´s necessary to have a notebook or mobile harddisk drive with you. In the past I traveled with my Lenovo X60 notebook, but for most of the time after 2 hours in battery mode I had to finish my work. In the meantime I own a Apple IPad (1. Gen) and I´m very happy with this little guy: it´s possible to check emails, surf the internet, check my images, makes some notes and nearly 8 hours without a break until the accu is empty.
The drawback on a IPad is that the Apple Camera Connection Kit is only available for SD Cards and if you use Compact Flash Cards (which are used in a Nikon D700) you will have a big problem. There are workarounds that some card reader can be used on a IPad, but most of them need too much power, so that the IPad blocks these devices.
But there is a new gadget, called HyerDrive iPad Hard Drive. It has a lot of built-in memory card reader (SD-, Compact Flash-Card a.s.o.), is powered by a accu, which can be loaded at a USB interface and can be bought only as a housing, in which you can built a HDU of your choice (2.5″ S-ATA). And what´s absolutley cool: You can connect this device to a IPad and copy your images to your little fellow and do the same things as on a notebook. For more information have a look here (click).
